Many hands take the same theme of a woman's face: some fully shaded in tonal, softly hatched portraits with loose hair and a sly half-smile, others quick contour studies with a turned head. The range runs from dense graphite and charcoal-like shading on textured paper to light, open pencil lines on plain white.
